SACAL Literacy Dialogues provide timely opportunities to explore some of the pressing issues facing South Australian adult literacy workers and advocates today. This event centres around questions of literacy and numeracy curriculum and features three speakers who take different entry points to explore the idea of ‘curriculum challenges’.
Valda Davey has a 25 year career as an educational practitioner in adult language, literacy and numeracy programs both in the community and TAFE sectors. She currently holds the position of Convenor of the IVEC Quality Assurance Group which has significant involvement in the IVEC curriculum review in South Australia. Valda will provide an overview of developments in IVEC curriculum in South Australia focussing on recent changes and what is likely to happen with curricula in the future. This will give participants a chance to consider how these shifts will affect public and private providers as various changes are considered.
Kath Brewer is a Director of Lynda Wise Associates. She has managed and participated in a range of national and state training, research and materials development projects across the adult literacy and vocational education and training sectors. Kath's most recent work has included being part of the team that has reviewed and revised the NRS. This document, the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF), is nearing completion. She verifies in the LLNP and manages a team of verifiers as well as coordinating WELL programmes.
Tess Were is a well known and long term South Australian adult literacy and numeracy educator who coordinates vocational preparation programs in TAFESA. Tess will explore trends in the training sector that will impact on adult literacy provision.
